Studio 1Thousand (S1K) was founded in 2011 to bring life to spaces through artistic and innovative LED lighting design. S1K is known for its aesthetic sensibility, technical expertise, and close client collaboration. We pride ourselves in bringing wonder and delight to the visitor experience and are recognized for excellence in creating highly-customized, large-scale LED art installations in complex public spaces that are elegant, impactful, and memorable. We believe lighting is a form of art that can transform spaces into dynamic, moving experiences. We’re inspired by light that creates feelings of joy and wonder, bringing surprise into the everyday. Creating large-scale, environmental LED artworks that engage people emotionally requires a skillful combination of aesthetic creativity, technical acumen, and close collaboration. We strive for excellence in all three aspects. Based in NYC and Seattle, S1K has produced site-specific LED artworks for non-profit, cultural, and corporate clients across the country including Seattle Asian Art Museum, Chase Center in San Francisco, Museum of the City of New York, and University of Chicago. We’re proud to have worked closely with a number of renowned architectural firms including Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, Mithun, Gensler, and Studio Joseph, among others. We’ve been honored for design excellence including winning LIT Design, CODA, and Architectural Lighting awards and being featured in Architect, Design Milk, and Interior Design magazines. Recent exhibitions include Owen James Gallery in NYC, the Portland Winter Light Festival, and the Countdown Clock public art commission for artist Matthew Barney.
