www.affordablebiotherapeutics.comWHAT IS UCAB? The Utrecht Centre for Affordable Biotherapeutics (“UCAB”) is the result of collaboration between Utrecht University and the World Health Organization. UCAB is a non-profit foundation that aims to facilitate the development and distribution of high quality and affordable biotherapeutics in low and middle income countries (LMICs). UCAB combines the scientific knowledge and expertise of Utrecht University with the global targets of the World Health Organization. As a not-for profit organization, UCAB has the unique position to facilitate successful local production of biotherapeutics. AIMS & MISSION The mission of UCAB is to improve global health by enabling the sustainable production of high quality and affordable biotherapeutics that are accessible to patients in low-and middle income countries (LMICs). UCAB focusses on the development of biotherapeutics with the greatest impact on public health in LMICs, which are preferably included in the Essential Medicines List (EML) or the Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) portfolio of the World Health Organization. UCAB's strategy is to initiate the formation of business associations between biotherapeutic manufacturers. The business associations share the development technology for the development of the biotherapeutic and build a shared file for marketing authorization in their individual territories.
