Soul Shed STL was founded in March of 2018 by JerMarco Britton who began hosting bi-weekly jam sessions in an effort to build community among musicians in Saint Louis. The jam sessions grew in popularity being appreciated for its free form kind of infrastructure of gathering and playing music. There are no set lists or sign up sheets. Musicians simply gather and play whatever that it is that is on their hearts to play allowing for a freedom in an expression unlike any other. In 2019, we began our Soul Shed University program that would format our organizational values of development into a yearlong artist curriculum for aspiring musicians to develop as professionals and people. Partnering with local professionals in Saint Louis, and as of recently other states, participants receive master classes consisting of various subjects such as music theory, marketing, performance technique and mental health to better serve themselves and others. In 2020, the program was recognized by The Arts and Education Council as the Creative stARTup Competition winner of the year and has since perpetually grown to service its community in every way possible through the practice of music.
