Mechanical Engineering is one of the six departments in the Faculty of Engineering at St. Joseph’s College of Engineering & Technology, Palai. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service to the community. The department had its start along with the inception of the college in the year 2002. Since then, the department is adjudged to be the best in all activities associated with the college. Our Department is recognised by academic peers, by students and by their employers as one of the foremost centres of mechanical engineering education and research. Our graduates are in high demand by industry and often promoted quickly to senior positions around the world. A degree in Mechanical Engineering is ideal preparation for starting a career in the Automotive, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Process, Medical and Marine industry, or other areas such as Management. Many of our graduates go on to careers that make an important contribution to society in terms of wealth generation, safety and environmental sustainability. Staff in the Department are at the forefront of their research fields. Presently the department, with an annual intake of 120 UG students and 18 PG students is led by Prof. Dr. Rajesh Baby along with thirty faculties and ten laboratory staffs. The faculty includes five Ph.D. holders and many others who are at the verge completing their current research works. Dr. Rajesh Baby took charge as the Head of the Department in 2018. The department was headed by Prof. E.V.S. Namboodiri (Retd. Senior Scientist ISRO) during 2002-2011, Prof. Jose Philip (Retd. Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers) during the period 2011-2013 and Dr. Binoy Baby during 2013-2018.
