Index provides brand protection and product authentication to solve the 500-billion-dollar product counterfeiting problem, and we’re starting with agriculture. Malicious groups are faking highly valuable seed and crop protection products, costing companies $11 billion dollars per year and devastating farmer livelihoods. Existing anti-counterfeit solutions are easily evaded and can be copied within weeks, with many relying on packaging. Index solves this problem with BioTags; microscopic fingerprints made from baker’s yeast that can be applied directly to any product to secure its identity. Using nature’s code, DNA, we create uniquely identifiable BioTags that are inactivated and have no effect on the products to which they are applied. Trace amounts of BioTag (well below parts-per-million) can be detected in-field or in a lab, with detection reports provided rapidly via our Trailhead software. Trailhead acts as our client portal and seamlessly integrates with existing traceability systems and software through a simple API.
