Vermillion Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial institution serving members in the Vermillion community since 1959. Membership is now open to everyone who works in, lives in, worships in or attends school in Clay County, South Dakota and Dixon County, Nebraska. Becoming a member of the credit union means that you also become a part owner. Because of its not-for-profit, tax exempt status, the credit union is able to provide very competitive loan and dividend rates to all of its members. All credit unions are created to provide financial services in a democratic, not-for-profit, cooperative manner with member ownership and involvement. In contrast to other financial institutions, credit unions are run by volunteers who are elected by members. Those characteristics are the foundation of the tax exemption. Becoming a member of the credit union means that you also become a part owner. Any eligible member wishing to use the credit union's services, must first establish their membership by opening a share account. The minimum deposit to open the share account is $15, plus a one-time $1 membership fee. To maintain services at the credit union, members must keep a minimum balance of $15 in the share (savings) account at all times. Once the share account has been established, a member can begin using any of the credit union's services available.
