Lake County Jail’s Mental Health Department maintains a caseload of approximately 150-200 inmates of whom receive medication management, individual and group therapy. The department manages an acute mental health unit inside of the jail where individuals are housed related to suicide and mental health crises, behavioral concerns, and participation in a therapeutic milieu is offered for those who suffer from severe mental illness. The modality for managing inmates with mental illness is unique within our unit as there is an integrative approach to treatment planning and implementation. Specially trained corrections officers and jail mental health providers work collaboratively to effectively maintain adequate safety and treatment of mentally ill inmates in a direct supervision setting.
