The Rohde Foundation
www.jesserohdefoundation.orgBrief Overview of Foundations Purpose The current shortage of healthcare workers throughout Africa is nothing new. What has changed is the model by which globally conscious and innovative health professionals, both in Africa and around the world, are challenging old methods. The Rohde Foundation aims to change the way rural African health care is both perceived and practiced by bringing the health professionals to the patients. Through education we aim to increase the health professional workforce; through placement we hope to provide health care to rural communities. The result of this model of mobilized care is employment for Africa’s youth. More importantly, rural healthcare becomes part of the fabric of village life turning health into a human relationship where trained community members are held responsible for the health of their neighbors. Responsibility, reward, innovation, health – this is what Africa’s children deserve; this is what The Rohde Foundation works towards. In rural communities throughout Africa, the education of nurses often equates to healthcare provision for hundreds of people. 1. Provide scholarships to rural African students committed to healthcare 2. Require that graduates return to community – working for Foundation for 3 years post-graduation. 3. Provide graduate health professionals with continuing education 4. Graduate health professionals are assigned to homes throughout the community 5. Health professionals provide monthly training workshops for community members in basic medical care – and provide more advanced training for future midwifes and community health workers regionally – while caring for their patients locally. 6. Construct local rural clinics for an efficient health services center. 7. Provide emergency transportation for local community 8. Create an environment of responsibility, pride and commitment to the health of local community.
