Serving students since 1992, the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship and the Department of Entrepreneurship in the Farmer School of Business at Miami University are internationally-recognized for their emphasis on strong academic research and immersive, real-world learning opportunities in startup and venture capital, social entrepreneurship and impact investing, corporate innovation and technology commercialization, and creativity. Central to the design of our undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurship degree programs is a belief in the transformative power of learning by doing to prepare students who are “job ready, day one.” Distinguishing features include a cross-disciplinary focus that engages more than 5,000 undergraduates from every major across campus annually in curricular and co-curricular programs that integrate effectively with the entrepreneurial ecosystem, providing students opportunities to gain practical, hands-on experience. Winner of the NASDAQ Center of Entrepreneurial Excellence Award in 2020, given annually to the top entrepreneurship program and institute in the world, the Farmer School’s Department of Entrepreneurship and the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship has been ranked in the “Top 10 Undergraduate Public Schools for Entrepreneurship Studies” in the nation for 15 consecutive years by Entrepreneur Magazine and The Princeton Review® (ranked #5 globally in 2023). The John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship is one of just two entrepreneurship institutes that are members of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) Oases of Excellence Network and is also recognized as an Ohio Center of Excellence.
