Hands on workshops teach them the various aspects of eating healthy including the importance of portion control, calorie counting and the identification of various food groups and types of foods. 2) Asian Indian Cultural Awareness Training (AICAT): “This practical training educates health care providers to better communicate with Asian Indian patients and learn about the health disparities specific to this community. The workshops, approved for nursing and social work credits are performed though various hospital networks to better understand this community to increase compliance and improve health outcomes. 3) SAHRI (the South Asian Health Research Institute) is a web based resource center to disseminate, develop research tools and information specific to the South Asian community. This internet tool will provide a community resource and information guide for specific health conditions and will enhance and consolidate the current medical literature specific to the South Asian community. 4) Sanatan Vidyalay: A Sunday school program to educate the children about the heritage and the culture of India.
