Our mission is to enrich community life by fostering an appreciation of the arts through active involvement in a variety of creative experiences. Our vision is to be a catalyst where art inspires and enriches the community. VAM is located in Riverwood in a purpose-built Visual Arts Centre. The facility is surrounded by 150 acres of urban wilderness located off Burnhamthorpe Road West at the Credit River. The one-story Art Centre houses administrative offices, five large classroom studios, members’ exhibition space and additional studio, print-making and pottery facilities in the neighbouring MacEwan House. Year-round instruction at the Art Centre includes over 100 adult classes and 80 children’s courses offered by professional instructors in acrylic, watercolour, oil, pastel, pencil, mixed-media, clay, photography, Ikebana, and other mediums. VAM’s programming expands beyond the walls of the Art Centre to curriculum delivered in the schools. This includes: ArtReach – a curriculum-based art program held in the schools or in our Centre which reaches 8,000 children annually.
