The Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) provides solid waste and wastewater collection services to a population of approximately 118,000 in Costa Mesa and small portions of Newport Beach and unincorporated Orange County. CMSD is an independent special district that is governed by an elected 5-member Board of Directors. As a recognized District of Distinction, CMSD takes pride in demonstrating the highest levels of excellence in customer service, transparency, innovation, and fiduciary responsibility.
