Kawartha Lakes Food Source

www.kawarthalakesfoodsource.com

We are a grass roots non-profit organization has been working to stock the shelves of food banks, and thereby community members, across the Kawartha Lakes by operating a central distribution centre for the last 18 years. We procure, sort, store, and distribute food and other household essentials to food banks. This organizational model allows food banks to focus their efforts on providing their clients the best experience possible when accessing service, because we take care of ensuring they have a consistent quality and quantity of food to give. In total, there are 14 food banks located across the Kawartha Lakes. Of these food banks, 10 are direct members of the Kawartha Lakes Food Source. Their membership provides them monthly shipments of non-perishables to restock shelves as well as weekly shipments of fresh eggs, milk, proteins, and produce. Three of these 10 food banks are located within Lindsay. The remainder are located in Coboconk, Dunsford, Fenelon Falls, Kinmount, Little Britain, Omemee, and Woodville. In addition to food banking, which is the backbone of our organization, we run several programs such as their Summer Outreach Lunch Program, Open Gardens, Food Literacy Program, Community Volunteer Income Tax Program, Emergency Relief Bag Program, and Family Cooking Project. All programs of the organization are intentionally designed to provide a dignified experience to those accessing support.
