California Access to Justice Commission
www.calatj.orgThe mission of the California Access to Justice Commission is to improve access to justice in civil matters for the most vulnerable Californians, those without the funds to hire a lawyer, which includes people living on low as well as moderate incomes. The Commission is made up of lawyers and judges, as well as academic, business, labor and community leaders dedicated to this goal. Millions of people in California cannot afford to pay lawyers for needed help. Seniors, veterans, people in poverty who often have to deal with many state and federal agencies, those who speak languages other than English, people with disabilities and their caretakers and families often face special legal problems and cannot find or afford a lawyer to help. Legal help is often available. Where it isn’t available today, new forms of help can be introduced. Ensuring that people in need can find available help and creating new ways to get help with legal problems is what the California Access to Justice is about.
