Stichting Wereld Kanker Onderzoek Fonds (WKOF) was founded in 1994 and is the only Dutch charity dedicated to the prevention and survival of cancer through diet, physical activity and weight. Our dream and ambition is a world without cancer. We want less people to get cancer, more people to survive cancer and an increased quality of life during and after cancer. Our mission is to help people make lifestyle choices that empower them against cancer. We do this through: - Funding of research on the links between diet, physical activity, weight and cancer; - Analysing and interpreting the accumulated scientific literature in the field; - Educating and informing people about the choices they can make in their diet and lifestyle; - Influencing policy to make the healthy choice the easy choice. We receive no governmental funding. Our activities are made possible only by donations, which we acquire through various fundraising activities. Without the support of our supporters our work would not be possible. WKOF is a member of the World Cancer Research Funds (WCRF) Global Network. This network is an international alliance of organisations dedicated to the prevention and control of cancer through healthy diets and lifestyles. The network comprises WCRF International, an umbrella association based in the UK, and its member organisations - national charities based in different countries. Current members of our network operate in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Hong Kong. Being a member of a network, we achieve much more working together than we can alone. We access and support research around the world, share resources to influence policymaking and reach more people with our cancer prevention health information.
