Legacy is a charity supporting the families of veterans who gave their lives or health. At Sydney Legacy we currently care for 50,000 widows, children and disabled dependants throughout Australia Legacy was founded in 1926 on the ethos of mateship and camaraderie, when a group of returned servicemen banded together in 1923 and took up a 'legacy of care' for the welfare of the widows and children of their many comrades who were killed during the war, or died subsequently. Legacy is dedicated to enhancing the lives and opportunities of our families through innovative and practical programs aimed at: - the protection of individuals’ and families’ basic needs; - advocating for their entitlements, rights and benefits; - assisting families through bereavement; and - helping people thrive, despite their adversity and loss. Legacy helps families, not just in the short term - Legacy is there for life. For the past 90 years, Legacy has 'kept the promise' to care for the families of those who lost their life or health to defend the nation.
