Eton College wants to build a new town of 3000 houses on land it owns at the foot of the South Downs. This scheme just doesn’t make sense. Its enormous scale is not supported by local housing needs or existing infrastructure. It’s contrary to all planning logic. Previous planning assessments recommended zero building growth for East Chiltington, the location of the proposed New Town, and found the proposed building site ‘not suitable’, ‘not deliverable or developable’. The ecological impact of concreting over this special downland area would be devastating and irreversible This loss of green space would: Damage the landscape of the South Downs forever Destroy habitat & eco systems that we should be protecting Concrete over working historical farmland Ruin 3 village communities which would be absorbed by this urban sprawl Add congestion & more pressures on surrounding villages and towns We don’t need it.
