Institute for Global Innovation
www.birmingham.ac.ukThe Institute for Global Innovation (IGI) Is the University of Birmingham’s mechanism for supporting Multi-disciplinary research that addresses some of the world’s most pressing challenges. We believe that in order to truly understand the ‘so called’ intractable challenges faced by humanity, we must examine them from a range of perspectives, and encourage close collaboration with policy makers, business and Non-Governmental Organisations. The IGI supports research into four primary challenges: • Fighting Gender Inequality • Resilient Cities • Water Challenges • Twenty First Century Transnational Crime By way of an example, our Fighting Gender Inequality Scheme contains specialists in Law, Political Science, Medicine and Management Studies. This combination of skills means the team can examine challenges in a holistic fashion and avoid solutions that will simply ‘displace’ problems rather than solve them. Similarly, a strand of our Transnational Crime theme focuses on child protection, a challenge that is relevant across the globe, but the specifics of which differ from location to location. The IGI is keen that the research we support is informed by the experiences of people and organisations that are grappling with these challenges on a daily basis. If you are interested in learning more about the work of the IGI please contact: Prof Hisham Mehanna, Director (H.Mehanna@bham.ac.uk) or David Evans, Head of Project and Partnerships (d.evans.4@bham.ac.uk)
