Lukes Wings

www.lukeswings.org

Luke’s Wings is a 501(c)3 military nonprofit dedicated to the support of wounded, ill, and injured service members by providing families with the means to visit during their recovery and rehabilitation through the gift of flight. Luke’s Wings becomes a vital resource for emergency and long-term travel needs; providing over 13,000 flights to date. Unlike other organizations, we do not place a limitation on the number of flights provided to each family nor on the relationship of those traveling. Furthermore, we pride ourselves on quick response time and flexibility, ensuring families can be together for every surgery, emergency, birthday, holiday or time of need. In 2008, Sarah Wingfield met Luke Shirley, a wounded service member, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Like many, Luke was taken to a hospital that would best suit his recovery needs, not the geographical location of his loved ones; leaving him alone for most of his recovery process. The Wounded Warrior Transportation Assistance Program was born from that very conversation and continues to grow and support families in need of not only travel assistance but of the emotional and physical support that comes with loved ones being present during the recovery process.
