The organization started as a safe residential facility for women and eventually serving as a social club. Over time the organization developed a strong reputation for women’s issues and advocacy. Our mission: The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We became the YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region by regionalizing and expanding our services to include Bay, Midland and Saginaw Counties. We are a leadership organization for women and advocate for the advancement of women in the Great Lakes Bay Region. YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region has six core programs that focus on the empowerment and advancement of women in the Great Lakes Bay Region: -YWCA Women’s Resource Center -Getting Ahead Program -Parent Education -Advocacy -Racial Justice -Professional Development. All of the programs and services at the YWCA are designed to support women and their families with education, employment and attaining economic self-sufficiency.
