Breakthrough Twin Cities
www.breakthroughtwincities.orgFounded in 2005, Breakthrough Twin Cities (BTC) prepares under-resourced students for college success and cultivates the next generation of educators. BTC’s primary goal is to prepare highly motivated, under-resourced students for success throughout middle and high school,as well as college admission, matriculation and graduation. We provide our middle school students with 250 hours of demanding academic instruction in math, science, literature, writing and elective courses during a six-week summer program and Saturday sessions throughout the school year. Our high school students attend monthly Saturday sessions during the school year, and receive academic support, college counseling and career exploration. We also have as a goal to inspire and train the next generation of diverse and culturally competent teachers. The high energy that Teaching Fellows (college and selective senior high school students) bring to the program, combined with their proximity in age to our students, ensures that BTC youth have mentors who they can relate to and feel encouraged by in their studies. At the same time, Teaching Fellows gain valuable classroom teaching experience long before they would through their undergraduate studies. One of BTC’s hallmarks is consistently strong student outcomes. We are proud to have a 100% high school graduation rate with 100% of BTC seniors having been accepted to post-secondary education institutions.
