The University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy /UCTM/ – Sofia is a state higher-education institution which is accredited at the higher standards in Bulgaria. UCTM operates on the principle of academic autonomy under the Higher Education Act and the internal regulations that are the basis for implementing the priorities of the European Higher Education Area. The University educates over 4000 students annually in Bachelor, Master and PhD degrees in regular and part-time forms. Issue of European engineers graduate diploma supplement as well as joint degrees with the Technical University of Hamburg - Harburg, Otto von Gerike University in Germany and Moscow State University Press. The credit transfer system ECTS is used in UCTM. Some of courses are taught respectively in German, French and English. The University maintains a long-term cooperation with many foreign universities in joint projects, training programs and exchange of students and teachers. Mission of UCTM is to preparing highly qualified graduates in all fields of chemical technology and metallurgy, materials science, biotechnology, ecology, automation, information technology and management and to develop basic and applied research in traditional fields of natural sciences and chemical technology, metallurgy and the most advanced areas of biotechnology, nanotechnology, energy and environmental efficiency and information technology.
