Blue Ocean was founded on the idea that the traditional investment management industry is broken, with poorly aligned incentives, boring, me-too products, and poor returns. This firm was created to rectify that situation, providing investors an opportunity to invest in companies that are not typically found in traditional portfolios. We invest in fast growth B2B companies with recurrent customer engagement. Every company is truly innovative, has strong management alignment, and a durable competitive advantage. Our universe starts with all developed market companies. Companies are targeted for proprietary research following a disciplined screening process which identifies only those companies that meet all of a specific set of criteria. These criteria take our initial universe of 2300 companies down to 60. For these, we do our own proprietary research and value each company using DCFs. Only those companies with share prices at least 40% below intrinsic value are bought. This selection process leads to a differentiated portfolio, and in turn to differentiated performance. The firm is wholly owned by Ted Holmes. He founded the firm following a 20+ year career with UBS Asset Management, initially as a tech analyst and ultimately as European Head of Equities. During his career, he successfully applied the firm's intrinsic value philosophy to technology and growth investing, generating firm leading alpha during his years as an analyst. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, is a CFA Charterholder, and qualified as a CPA.
