Project FAIR: Fairness in INGO Remuneration
www.project-fair.business-school.ed.ac.ukProject FAIR was originally founded to address the so-called 'dual salary' system used by international aid organisations, which remunerates their national and international employees on different salary scales. Historically, this was to attract international, skilled workers to difficult contexts, whilst remunerating national employees according to their local economy. Research indicated this had a negative psychological impact on employee motivation, retention and performance. Now, Project FAIR operates as a collaborative space for international aid organisations to address the challenges they face rewarding their employees. The group discusses practical, evidence-based solutions and includes organisations of all sizes. It aims to assist development organisations to reward in line with their organisational values, assisting them to maximise their contributions to decent work, sustainable livelihood, and poverty eradication.
