Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia provides carefully screened and trained mentors for vulnerable school-age youth in Central Georgia. We cover 15 Counties including Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Greene, Hancock, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Laurens, Monroe, Peach, Twiggs, Washington, and Wilkinson. We traditionally serve over 1,000 children each year with one to one mentors, driving educational achievement and improving social behaviors in the mentored youth. We intentionally serve youth of single parent families, youth who have at least one parent in the military, children of prisoners, children of Hispanic heritage, teen fathers, children involved with the juvenile justice system, and children at risk of delinquency or school failure. Recent studies show that children who had a Big Brother or a Big Sister for at least a year : 99% achieved higher grades in school, 96% went to school more often, and 98% got along better with their peers and adults in their lives. The mentoring provides positive benefits, improving the children's lives for the better, forever.
