Vinnies SA
www.vinnies.org.auOperating since 1884, Vinnies in South Australia has around 75 staff, 3,000 volunteers, 36 Vinnies shops and numerous Special Works - such as our Vincentian men's shelter providing emergency accommodation at Whitmore Square, Adelaide. Many of our 3,000 volunteers deliver our unique home visitation service, visiting those in need with our caring, non judgmental Vinnies ethos to provide a tailored mix of food, clothing or emergency funds to relieve immediate needs, while identifying the deep causes that lead to spiritual, financial and social hardship. Our goal is to provide a 'hand up' to people experiencing disadvantage before crisis point is reached. Each year, Vinnies SA assists more than 100,000 South Australians through over $2 million spent on food, clothing, emergency funds, accommodation and more. The need for our services is growing with increasing demand brought about by unemployment, under-employment, high utilities costs and complex, intertwining issues - including those around mental health and domestic violence - that are often exacerbated by social injustice and disadvantage. Our major fundraising event is the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout, held in June each year, which raises funds for homeless people and those at risk of homelessness.
