San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness
www.sacada.orgMISSION: Empowering our community to live healthy lives; by providing prevention, intervention, and recovery services for children and adults. SACADA was established in November 1957 by a group of influential citizens whose lives had been affected by the disease of alcoholism. Effective May 4, 2018, the organization's name has been changed to the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (formerly San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse). Abigail G. Moore, Chief Executive Officer, stated, “We chose the name change to clearly and concisely communicate the impact our programs have on children and adults in our community. Our goal is to create a greater “awareness” and prevention surrounding substance use disorders.” We provide evidence based curriculum training for local students in San Antonio. Our prevention specialists use curriculums like Botvin Life Skills, Kids Connection, Project Heart, Too Good For Drugs, and Project Toward No Drug Abuse. We also offer training for professionals the First Friday of each month. CEU's are provided for LPC, LCDC, CCJP, Social Work, and LMFT. The fee is $35.00 for each 3 hour session. Our Circles of San Antonio Community Coalition (COSA) works on reducing underage drinking and binge drinking. The Coalition meets the second Wednesday of the month at our offices at 3:00 p.m. We have the Prevention Resource Center (PRC) that is a lending library of DVD's and books that include information on substances of abuse and other topics that relate. The Prevention Resource Center also has brochures and is able to do presentations in the community.
