Jack and Jill of America, Inc - The Woodlands Chapter

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. We are a nationwide organization with over 247 chapters in seven geographic regions encompassing 35 states and the District of Columbia. Membership is via legacy or invitation only. The Woodlands Chapter of Jack and Jill was founded in 1986. The initial officers included: President, Myrna Irons; 1st Vice President, Michelle Stokes; 2nd Vice President, Nancy Dunson; Financial Secretary, Carolyn Swain; Recording and Corresponding Secretary, Sheridan Vickers; Treasurer, Franca Sheehy; Sergeant-at-Arms, Hallie Dorsey; Chaplain, Jane Peter- son; Editor/Historian, Janice Peyton; Program Directors, Pat Holmes and Paulette Anderson; Parliamentarian, Doris Franklin. The chapter has activity groups for the children which include: Jumping Jacks (2-5 years), Superstars (grades 1-4), Pacesetters (grades 5-7), and Essence (teens). These groups are the heart of the organization and work together throughout the year on cultural, educational and social events. There are 58 mother-members and 8 Associates of The Woodlands Chapter, dedicated to building future African-American leaders. We emphasize the importance of family and extended family relationships, black history, community service, legislative advocacy and philanthropic giving. We seek for ALL children the same advantages we desire for our own and believe every child, with proper guidance and opportunity can be a leader.
