www.psychanthro.org

The Foundation for Applied Psychiatric Anthropology is a non-profit organization that promotes the use of ethnographic research and mixed-methods approaches to improve understandings and treatments of mental illness, broadly defined. FAPA facilitates collaboration among scholars and practitioners who wish to integrate clinical work with ethnographic research and advocacy initiatives related to culture and mental health. The Foundation also offers reduced-fee psychotherapy services to individuals and families in the St. Louis, MO area. FAPA was founded in 2008 by a psychiatrist (Davinder Hayreh, MA, MD) and an anthropologist (Rebecca Lester, PhD, MSW, PLCSW) and has three divisions: 1. The RESEARCH DIVISION networks researchers and practitioners interested in ethnography and mental health, both in the US and globally. 2. The ADVOCACY & EDUCATION DIVISION promotes advocacy alliances between practitioners and researchers, and works to advance their shared interests in the public realm through various educational events and initiatives. 3. The CLINICAL DIVISION provides low cost, quality therapeutic and psychiatric services to individuals and families in the St. Louis ares (where FAPA is located). FAPA aims to be a nexus for research, practice and advocacy around culture and mental health issues and encourages researchers, practitioners, and advocates interested in culture and mental health to become affiliated with FAPA. Affiliation is *free* and carries no obligations; it is a means for networking with others interested in these issues.
