MLS Grid
www.mlsgrid.comMLS Grid effectively manages data requests, licensing, billing, and the compliance of data usage for Multiple Listing Services (MLS). MLS Grid was created by a network of MLSs and is designed to help brokers, MLSs, and product vendors work efficiently together to affect cost savings by implementing RESO standards. The goal of the MLS Grid is a single standardized data point of access and management for MLSs and brokers. Whereas Upstream is focusing on a single source of data going INTO MLSs, the MLS Grid is focusing on a single source of data coming OUT of MLSs. It is an evolutionary step for existing data services that MLSs have had in place for decades. Its purpose is to improve the MLS industry, for the benefit of brokers. Based on RESO standards, the MLS Grid will eliminate redundancies currently in the marketplace. Its purpose is not to disrupt, but rather to enable MLSs to work together towards the common goal of improving MLS services through collaboration. The MLS Grid’s focus is on technology, not politics. MLS consolidation can take years. The MLS Grid is happening now and includes MLSs across the country. The MLS Grid deliberately started with a small group of like-minded MLSs so that we could move quickly to create a working product without the distraction of marketing and product launch to a broader audience. One factor inhibiting consolidation in the industry has been the fear of losing local identity and preferences that are ultimately reflected in data. The MLS Grid creates an environment that preserves the best of “localization” while increasing the opportunities for broader cooperation among MLSs. Boundaries that have never had any relation to how brokers and consumers see their markets, will change from barriers to gateways.
