AWE Communications was founded in 2000 as a spin-off from the University of Stuttgart The main product of the company is the WinProp Software Suite for the Simulation of Wave Propagation in various scenarios (rural, urban, indoor, tunnel, time-variant scenarios,... ) and for the Radio Network Planning of different air interfaces (2G, 3G, and 4G cellular networks as well as WLANs and other private networks). In 2016 Altair Engineering, Inc., located in Troy, Michigan (USA) acquired all shares of AWE Communications GmbH and the WinProp software suite is now fully integrated into Altair's Hyperworks Suite.
