The Small Theatre of Vilnius (STV) was founded on 2 March 1990, but the performance There will be no death here, staged by Valdas Kukulas and Rimas Tuminas in the Small Hall of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre on 2 December 1988, is actually considered the beginning of the Small Theatre. In 1997, the Small Theatre of Vilnius was granted state theatre status. The Theatre has since 2005 been operating in the building Gedimino pr. 22 (built in 1900, engineer architect K. Koroyedov). The founder and long-term artistic director of the Theatre is Rimas Tuminas, a well-known Lithuanian director. The core of the Theatre’s troupe consists of the course of Tuminas’ former students who had come together as early as the end of the 1970s. “The founder of this theater Rimas Tuminas always spoke of the Man. Now we talk about choice, and about freedom, and about possible forms of expression. This is our concept of freedom and our expression of freedom as a value. We are concerned about what is happening in the world and in our lives, because the Man is always a part of this world. We talk about the big journey to the Feast as a metaphor and as a symbol. Our performances are not only about various stages of the journey, they are not only about stops, slopes and losses, but also about hope and about big dreams. Freedom as a form of expression in the theatre, or the theatre as a form of freedom. There are three categories of creativity: 1. The classical line (“Three sisters”, “Uncle Vanya”). 2. The debuts of young creators (Lithuanian plays, Dramatest, “Tinder dates”). 3. Searching for new forms of expression ( “Scylla Wants To Be a Human”, “Infinity”, “As you like it”).” Executive Director Simonas Keblas
