Fondazione Istituto piemontese Antonio Gramsci
www.gramscitorino.itThe Fondazione Istituto Piemontese Antonio Gramsci was born in Turin in 1974 and quickly became an important reference for cultural local production. In accordance with its charter it stands as a meeting point between the various cultures of the left and as an observatory of the socio-economic development of Turin and Piedmont. In recent years the Foundation has been specializing in the workers' movement history and of Turin society. It has developed an ever-increasing attention to the great themes of work in contemporary society and to new trends in cultural politics. Since its origins it has built an archive and a library which, from simple warehouses of knowledge, have become over the years capable of providing useful and specialized services to the community of scholars and others. The historical archive preserves a considerable amount of documentation on the history of the Turin workers' and democrats movement from 1879 to the present (printed, iconographic, audio-video), for a total of over 2,000 linear meters. Of particular note is the Fund of the Turin Federation of the Italian Communist Party and that of the Turin Camera del Lavoro (Trade Union). The library consists of 60,000 volumes, 6,000 booklets, 3,000 periodicals. The most significant collections are those concerning Antonio Gramsci, the history of the labor and trade union movement, new trends in the labor market and digital technologies. From 2016 it has joined the Polo del '900, one of the most interesting innovations in the Italian cultural panorama.
