gbiomed.kuleuven.beMISSION The mission of the Institute for Orthopaedic Research and Training (IORT) is to facilitate innovative research, manage clinical trials and provide state-of-the-art surgical training to improve our understanding and practice of orthopaedics. - Research: Our research team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers, resident surgeons and clinical students exploring research projects covering a variety of orthopaedic sub-disciplines. Our projects range from basic to applied, and include work with cadaveric specimens and human subjects, linked by the broad aim of improving our understanding of clinical orthopaedic conditions and treatments. - Clinical Trials: Our experienced in-house staff includes two clinical research assistants who work closely with our clinical staff to both set up and manage commercial and academic clinical trials. - Training: In close collaboration with the anatomy department, the IORT offers hands-on orthopaedic training for surgeons at all levels; from the trainee to the experienced clinician. RESEARCH INTERESTS Research at the IORT is focused within orthopaedics and often develops directly from the clinical needs and interests of our surgical team members and collaborators. We are also very interested in exploring innovative technology and how it may contribute to improving treatment and diagnosis of clinical disorders.
