We, human use our digital devices to communicate nearly 75% of the time. Technological advancements have had a drastic impact on the way individuals communicate. This can often lead to misconception, misinterpretation, and misunderstandings. Many studies have been conducted regarding technology’s effect on social interaction and face-to-face communication since the rise of cellphone and social media usage in the late 2000s. People who had conversations in the absence of mobile devices reported higher levels of empathetic concern, while those conversing in the presence of a mobile device reported lower levels of empathy. American adults report spending more than 11 hours per day watching, reading, listening to, or simply interacting with media, half of that time is spent talking on a cell phone. These facts severely hinder one’s ability to clearly communicate. It further inhibits one’s negotiation position. These are the precise reasons I authored my book and have delivered speeches around the US.
