Big Heart Brigade is a non-profit, 501c3 organization enriching the lives of those in need by providing 75,000 Thanksgiving meals to the community. In 1992, a diverse group of local businessmen, neighbors, firefighters, police officers, and other civil servants came together and formed the Big Heart Brigade (BHB). BHB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that abides by the motto, “Coming to the Rescue.” Since its inception, numerous people who enjoy a “hands-on” approach to civic service and are dedicated to making a difference in their community have joined the Brigade’s efforts to help bring relief. Today, BHB’s most visible endeavor is the annual Thanksgiving Feast. Each year the Feast brings together thousands of volunteers from throughout South Florida who work to prepare and distribute individually packaged Thanksgiving meals. In November 2013, the Brigade provided over 102,000 meals to those in need and since its founding, BHB has fed over 1.5 million people. In addition to the Thanksgiving Feast, BHB remains active in its community year-round. Throughout its history the Brigade has conducted holiday toy drives, donated over 750,000 pounds of food and supplies to victims of the earthquake in Haiti, and become actively involved in the Wounded Warriors Project.
