AUSMAP - Australian Microplastic Assessment Project
www.ausmap.orgPlastic doesn’t decompose, it only gets smaller. The ocean is now awash with trillions of tiny plastic particles, which mop up toxins in the water. Plankton is ingesting these toxic particles. They, in turn, provide food either directly or indirectly to every other creature in the ocean, including whales, sharks, and every species of sea creature ingested by humans. AUSMAP is a new national coalition of high profile environmental groups, researchers, sustainable businesses and educators. We are gathering crucial new data about microplastic in aquatic environments: how much is out there, where it is and where is it coming from? The only way we can do this is with your help! AUSMAP citizen science activities are being developed for high schools, environmental education centers, and community groups. Together, we can ACT, LEARN and CREATE CHANGE, for healthy oceans and clean beaches. For more information, email [email protected] or visit us at www.ausmap.org
