McDonald Marine + Industrial

If it's on the water, on a stage or on a building site, we can make it happen. At McDonald Marine + Industrial, we create the extraordinary with rope, cable, steel and mesh for the architectural, theatrical and marine industries (and more!). We love being challenged and taking on the difficult projects - no job is too big or too small. Founded in 1987 by Colin McDonald and his son Geoff, McDonald Marine was originally located in a small retail store in City Road, South Melbourne. Both avid yachting enthusiasts, the shop specialised in all things boating and marine, with a strong emphasis on rope and rigging. After Col's retirement in 2001, Geoff took over as sole Managing Director. Over the years, the business has evolved somewhat, moving into the architectural/building world and taking on many and varied projects. Of note, this includes the installation of the catenary lighting in Melbourne's Federation Square and Lt Bourke Street, the stainless steel cable installation on Station Pier's gantry bridge and the installation of the mesh and stainless cables for the chimpanzee enclosure at Taronga Zoo (big job that one!). We also run a sheet metal and welding workshop, taking on a wide range of fabrication projects, from stainless steel bench tops to balustrades, handrails and queuing systems. Rope and rigging projects also remain a large component of our work - this includes marine rigging, art installations, theatrical and circus rigging, as well as some exciting new projects utilising rope as a spectacular architectural feature. This year we've re-branded and re-launched as McDonald Marine + Industrial, to better reflect the wide range of projects and work that we do. We're very excited about our future and are looking forward to taking on many new challenges.
