Population Services International
www.psi.orgPopulation Services International (PSI) was founded in the 1970s and today is operating in more than 65 countries around the globe. PSI is a global health organization dedicated to improving the health of people in the developing world by focusing on serious challenges like STIs, HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, barriers to maternal health, lack of family planning and the greatest threats to children under five including malaria, diarrhoea, pneumonia and malnutrition. PSI is also well known as a worldwide pioneer of social marketing and social franchising, where commercial marketing strategies are used to make services and products available to the poor and attractive for them to use. A hallmark of PSI is the commitment to the principle that health services and products are most effective when they are accompanied by robust communications that help ensure wide acceptance and proper use. PSI works in partnership with host governments, ministries of health, and local organizations to create health solutions that are built to last. Operations in PNG began in 2007. Today PSI/PNG employs over 70 staff mostly based in Port Moresby and Lae (Morobe Province), Tari and Komo in Hela Province and Vanimo in West Sepik. PSI/PNG works on malaria prevention and treatment, diarrhoea prevention and treatment, the prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), reduction of gender-based violence, (TB), prevention of non-communicable diseases like heart disease and diabetes, and improving sexual and reproductive health. PSI is known for its successful campaigns such as Malolo Liklik, Yumi Rausim Malaria, Strongim Famli, Seif Raid male condoms and Stap Seif female condoms; and the Haus Lain SMS subscriber group in partnership with the National Department of Health (NDoH) and the National AIDS Council Secretariat (NACS).
