The Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA) was formed to advance the spread of evidence-based healthy aging programs throughout the state and to encourage and support healthy living among older people through partnerships with public and private organizations. Wisconsin has long been recognized as an innovator in providing programs and services to meet the changing needs of older people. To build on that tradition, (WIHA) – a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization – was launched in 2010 to help the state’s citizens live healthier lives through evidence-based prevention programs. WIHA currently administers an ample menu of evidence-based health promotion programs — - Living Well, a chronic disease self-management workshop - Tomando Control de Su Salud, a Spanish-language chronic disease self-management workshop - Healthy Living with Diabetes, an adaption of Living Well specifically for people with diabetes - Vivir Saludable con Diabetes, a Spanish-language diabetes self-management workshop - Healthy Living with Chronic Pain, a self-management program for people with ongoing pain - Stepping On, a falls prevention workshop - Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a workshop to support people who are caring for a friend or family member - Walk With Ease, a physical activity program for anyone but with a special emphasis on people with arthritis - Physical Activity for Lifelong Success (PALS), a physical activity program for people who are sedentary - Mind Over Matter: Healthy Bowels, Healthy Bladder (MOM), an incontinence self-management program for older women We maintain the existing registry of Master Trainers and Leaders for these programs, monitor workshops for quality and fidelity, and collect data about program outcomes.
