The Ohio Judicial Conference was created by statute in 1963 “for the purpose of studying the co-ordination of the work of the several courts of Ohio, the encouragement of uniformity in the application of the law, rules, and practice throughout the state and within each division of the courts as an integral part of the judicial system of the state; to promote an exchange of experience and suggestions respecting the operation of the judicial system; and in general to consider the business and problems pertaining to the administration of justice and to make recommendations for its improvement.” The Ohio Judicial Conference consists of the justices of the Supreme Court, and the judges of the courts of appeals, common pleas courts, probate courts, juvenile courts, municipal courts, and county courts of Ohio, and is operated on a voluntary membership basis. The Mission of the Ohio Judicial Conference is to: (1) Preserve the co-equal status of the judiciary as the third branch of government by: •promoting understanding and cooperation among the branches of government, •providing information and services to the other branches of government. (2) Provide leadership to the judiciary by: •advocating on behalf of the judicial branch •providing information and services to judges and judicial associations, and by •coordinating positions and initiatives of the judicial associations. (3) Promote public confidence in the judiciary by: •encouraging uniformity in the application of the law, rules, and practice •enhancing the public’s understanding of the judicial system. •eliminate bias in the judicial system The Ohio Judicial Conference is dedicated to serving all Ohio judges. The Judicial Conference is the voice of the judiciary and a primary resource to ensure the fair, unbiased, open and effective administration of justice in Ohio.
