Eastern 8 is a non-profit certified Community Housing Development Organization focused on community development providing housing for low-to-moderate income families, serving Washington, Sullivan, Carter, Greene, Hawkins, Hancock, Johnson & Unicoi counties. 5 service areas: Pre-purchase homebuyer ed, homeownership opportunities, post-purchase homeowner ed, foreclosure prevention services, affordable rentals. E8 holds 25+ classes facilitated by certified instructors/counselors with 250+ participants annually. By 2006 E8 built 18 homes annually. Production surged to 52 homes in '10, with approximately 40 homes in '11. Nearly $20M has been added to area county property tax values through E8’s programming since 1998. Much of E8's work has been scattered-site across 8 counties, now E8 is strategically focused on subdivision development. With 2 completed, E8 is currently working on a 41 lot subdivision, Bronson Ridge in Carter County and the Village at King Springs in Johnson City, TN. E8 is turning its attention to Sullivan County/Greater Kingsport, building relationships and assessing housing needs with community leaders. With 125 yrs combined housing experience, E8s staff of 17 has an understanding of community needs, government relationships, access to resources/partnerships, and future regional plans. Reaching 24,000+ people annually, E8 is a partner in regional economic development, liaison/advocate to homebuyers and an engine for community revitalization.
