Childhood brain cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in children under the age of 19 however it is THE DEADLIEST and LEAST RESEARCH FUNDED of all Childhood cancers. WHY RESEARCH? Over the last two decades there has been an inspiring leap forward in the mission to cure adult cancers. Innovative research has left to new treatment options and eduction has led to great strides in early detection. Research into each unique for of cancer is the powerful force driving the creations of live saving treatments. Although there is some incredible work being done in the file do f adult cancer research, research into childhood cancers and in particular, childhood brain cancer, remains woefully dormants. Adult Cancer and Childhood Cancer are not the same. the National Cancer Institute devotes 96% of its total research to adult cancers. Of the 4% allocated to childhood cancer, less than 1% of the total budget is devoted to childhood brain cancer. (Source: American Childhood Cancer Organization) $6M dollars is the amount of money roughly allocated to childhood brain cancer by the NCI. Clinical trials for aids research was awarded $254M and breast cancer gets more than $584M.
