www.designlab.acRCA-IIS Tokyo Design Lab is a design project jointly established by The University of Tokyo Institute of Industrial Science and Technology and Royal College of Art, established in December 2016. Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo (IIS): IIS is part of The University of Tokyo covering almost all fields of applied science and engineering. It consists of five research departments and research center groups, and approximately 160 active laboratories. Its missions are to solve engineering problems; provide a bridge between academics and practice; and develop human resource. Significant historical developments include: the creation of the pencil rocket (Hideo Itokawa) and the photocatalytic function of titanium dioxide (Kenichi Honda, Akira Fujishima), and has produced numerous state-of-the-art technologies. Royal College of Art (RCA): The Royal College of Art in London, England is the world’s most influential, wholly postgraduate university institution of art and design – fine art, applied art, design, communications and humanities – offering the degrees of MA, MPhil and PhD. It is ranked #1 in the world for Art and Design in the QS World University Rankings 2016/17. It is one of the oldest art universities in the world and continues to graduate famous artists and designers in many fields. It has been educating in design engineering since the 1980s and is also a global education leader in this field.
