Reach & Rise is a national one-on-one therapeutic mentoring program of the YMCA that matches adult volunteer mentors ages 23+ with a young person, age 6-17, for a minimum of one year. Mentors meet once a week with youth to model a positive adult-child relationship and to help youth build a better future by developing tools to improve family relationships, self-esteem, peer relationships, school performance, decision-making, and problem solving. Mentors receive 15+ hours of training to prepare them to create safe, healthy and meaningful relationships with youth, to utilize healthy communication skills, and to engage in enriching activities in the community. Youth are referred from schools, counselors, parents, YMCA programs, and community agencies. Program Directors provide ongoing mentor support, family support, and case management. Together, mentors and mentees share diverse experiences, develop a stronger sense of belonging within their communities, and create lasting memories!
