The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security was established in 2007 by Lieutenant-General (ret) The Honourable Roméo Dallaire, UN force commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda. Our mission is to progressively eradicate the use of child soldiers through a preventative security sector approach. To achieve this important objective, the Dallaire Institute conducts activities on three fronts: • Interdisciplinary research to build—and share—knowledge, which in turn lead to new solutions • High-level advocacy activities to create and promote the political will to end the use of children as soldiers • Tactical, prevention-oriented training to security sector actors, to promote broader security sector reform. In every aspect of our work, the Dallaire Institute seeks to collaborate with governments, the security sector, academics, humanitarians, and civilian communities. We are the only organization in the world to work with military, police, prison personnel, and private security operators to prevent the recruitment and use of children in violence before it happens.
