HRIDAY is a not for profit organisation that aims to promote sustainable health, particularly among youth, in multiple settings, including schools, colleges, workplaces and the community at large. HRIDAY engages in multi-disciplinary research, capacity building and undertakes campaigns linked to the prevention and control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). HRIDAY has been instrumental in designing, implementing and evaluating school health programmes and strategies to promote youth participation in addressing health related issues and sharing successful programme methods with others interested in similar goals. HRIDAY successfully developed behavioral interventions for health promotion with focus on environment protection, tobacco control, nutrition, physical activity, hygiene and sanitation, alcohol avoidance, healthy gender relations and prevention of HIV/AIDS for school and community-based settings. These interventions are based on the social cognitive theory of learning, and address both intrapersonal and socio-environmental risk factors. The school and community-based health promotion programmes have been scientifically evaluated and have shown success in inculcating healthy practices among adolescents (results published in reputed peer reviewed international and national journals).
