We were originally part of the Portage Bands which were comprised of Swan Lake, Long Plain and White Mud Band (now Sandy Bay). We have approximately 1200 members, about 500 on-reserve and the rest in other towns, cities and countries around the world. SLFN has four reserves: SLFN 7 - the main reserve located at the junction of Hwy 23 & 34 near Swan Lake, MB; Indian Gardens IR8 which is by Rathwell, MB; Forest Hills (aka IR SLFN7A) located by Carberry, MB; and SLFN8A located by Headingley, MB. We deliver a variety of services on behalf of the government such as health services, education (K-8 school), public works and housing. We are signatory to the First Nations Land Management Act and we have our Land Code whereby we administer our lands and resources.
