The Culpeper County Library was organized in 1926 through the efforts of Lucille Nelson Penniman and Mary Williams Tucker. Miss Crimora Waite was appointed the first official librarian and served in that capacity for over 50 years. In 1963 the first library building was constructed and served as home to the Culpeper Town and County Library. In 1996 the library became an agency of the County of Culpeper and plans were made to construct a new library. Our present fully-automated facility opened to the public on March 25, 1998. Library Board of Trustees Rebecca Mazuch (East Fairfax) Jack Schupp (Stevensburg) Jack Garber (Jefferson) Gary Deal (Board of Supervisors) Peggy Place (Cedar Mountain) Barbara Weber (Salem) Mary Puhan-Lanier (Catalpa) Marty Moon (West Fairfax) The Library Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm in the Library's Conference Room. Our Mission The Culpeper County Library Board and staff improve the quality of life in the community by supporting educational, informational, and leisure needs and by making cultural opportunities available for every individual in the community. Our Vision We support a future in which a friendly and knowledgeable staff is available to help patrons find information and recreational materials with ease. The Library will be recognized and valued by all community members as a significant resource. The Library will continue to be a place to gather for meetings, socializing, and recreational activities. Further, the Library staff will act as advocates for the healthy growth and development of youth as they progress from pre-readers to early readers to contributing members of our community.
