Sam Monforte grew up surrounded by the passion of providing food. It began when his father Luigi bought his first food store at the Normanby Fiveways. With the success of the business Nonno Luigi saw an opportunity to begin importing food from Europe to Queensland. Little did he know, that he would create an enduring cultural link between Italy and Queensland. As the saying goes ‘keep it in the family’, and Luigi’s eldest son Sam joined the business in 1977. He quickly became involved in all aspects of the company, from truck driving to overseeing importing. Under the guidance of his father he gained experience and knowledge of the food wholesaling industry. As the company rapidly expanded all of the Monforte brothers were involved. Fast track years later, with the combined effort of the family, L. Monforte and Co. was a huge success. His dream fulfilled and with an ever expanding number of grandchildren to entertain, Nonno Luigi decided to hang up his hat and sell the business. Sam was retired for several years before his passion for food couldn’t be contained any longer. In 2007 he opened Euro Foods Qld, to continue the tradition his father Luigi started many years before, of providing Australia with the foods of his heritage. Just like his father before him, Sam had a vision of creating and running a family business. His sons Lawrence and Liam are driven by their family’s values of hard work, honesty and integrity, striving to serve their customers with the same care and professionalism that has always been at the core of the Monforte family’s legacy.
